I was checking my bank statement (like we all should), and I noticed a charge of $11.49 listed as “Doordash Dashpass +4 digit number.” Neither my partner nor I use food delivery services, so unless my 6-year-old or the cat somehow ordered something, it wasn’t us.
I panicked, called my bank, canceled my debit card, and disputed the charge. The bank agent said my debit card ending in ****** was used for that purchase. I’m really shocked… how did this happen? Could they have cloned my card? Used NFC? (I always keep my card with me in an RFID wallet.)
And why would someone use a service that requires an address to deliver to? Why such a small amount? Was it a test charge to see if it worked before trying something bigger? Or maybe they assumed I wouldn’t notice, so they could keep taking small amounts.
Any advice on how to protect our accounts from this?
Thanks!
Edit: Turns out, I might’ve accidentally set up a Doordash Dashpass account through my Amazon Prime. It offered a free year, and then it started charging $9.99 + taxes. So, heads up to anyone in the same boat—check your Amazon Prime! Wish I didn’t have to cancel my debit card over it.
My kid had the same charge on their credit card. It wasn’t tied to their DoorDash account, so we had to ask the credit card company for chargebacks. Is this a scam by DoorDash?

Wow, same issue? How often did it show up? Was it regular?
I just looked it up—DashPass is $9.99 + taxes, so $11.49 in Quebec.
Does your kid have Amazon Prime? Maybe it was an offer connected to that. Now I’m wondering if I signed up a year ago and forgot. I’ll check Amazon.
@Clare
Yes, it was the DoorDash Dash Pass for the same amount you mentioned. My kid is an authorized user on my card, and it took us a few months to realize it wasn’t a valid charge.
Turns out I was right. About a year ago, I signed up for DashPass through my Prime account, so I got a year free. Never even used it. Maybe your son signed up similarly.
I tried comparing DashPass orders with SkipTheDishes, and DoorDash didn’t end up any cheaper even with the subscription. I canceled that free year as fast as I could.
