Not Receiving a 1099 for Contractor Work—What Should I Do?

I did some side work for a tech company in 2024, but they have since gone out of business. The CEO is not responding to my questions about taxes, and I haven’t received a 1099.

I assumed I’d be getting one, but if I never do, how should I report my income?

I have records of all my payments and hours, and I’m not owed any money. However, I’m not sure how to handle the Employer ID or anything else that would typically be on a 1099.

You don’t need a 1099 to report your income. If you have records of your payments, just report them as self-employment income on your tax return.

A 1099 is just a form for the IRS to track payments. If you accurately report your income, you won’t have any issues. Just include your earnings as self-employment income on Schedule C.
