Is it safe to ignore a text from Zelle about authorizing a transaction if I don't use Zelle?

I use Capital One. I got a text from a number 767666 saying I needed to authorize a transaction in the Zelle app. I don’t use Zelle, and I heard the transaction will disappear in 14 days if I ignore it. Do you think it’s safe to ignore it, or should I call Capital One? It might be a mistake, but I’d like to hear from people who use Zelle.

In general, it is never safe to authorize any text or transaction that you have not made. It is the quickest way for scammers to steal your money

I would not recommend ignoring a text from Zelle about authorizing a transaction, even if you don’t use their service. Scammers often send fake texts pretending to be from payment apps like Zelle to trick people into revealing sensitive information. If you receive an unexpected text about a Zelle transaction, it’s likely a phishing attempt. Do not click any links or provide any personal or financial details. Instead, contact Zelle directly through their official website or app to check if there are any issues with your account. Be very cautious about unsolicited messages asking you to verify information - legitimate companies will not request sensitive data via text or email. The safest approach is to ignore the message and report it to Zelle and your bank if you suspect fraud. Protecting your accounts is crucial, so never let your guard down, even if the text seems convincing.

I’ve been a Capital One customer for years and take security alerts seriously. Recently, I received a text from a number similar to yours, regarding an authorization request on Zelle, which I don’t use either. After some research and speaking with Capital One’s customer service, I learned that these texts are often phishing attempts or automated alerts. It’s crucial not to respond directly to such messages or click any links. Instead, log into your Capital One account directly through their official app or website to check for any genuine notifications. You can also call Capital One’s customer service using the number on their official website or your card to verify the alert’s authenticity. Taking these steps ensures you protect your account without falling victim to potential scams.

I would advice that you desist from responding to the text but instead verify the sender because scammers may use numbers that appear legitimate but are not associated with your bank or Zelle.
