I pay $1200 a month for health insurance for my family and I can't afford it anymore. Any other options?

Two adults, and two children in PA. I’m a freelancer with an LLC, and I take a personal draw. My health insurance costs more than any other expense, including my mortgage. It’s not even that great: $15,000 family maximum out-of-pocket, $7,500 individual maximum out-of-pocket, $2,000 family deductible, and $1,000 individual deductible. None of this includes dental or vision.

We’re considering going without insurance or just insuring the kids. Does anyone have any information that might help? I’m also a veteran, but I don’t qualify for VA benefits because I make too much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I faced a similar situation with high health insurance costs while freelancing. After evaluating options, I considered several alternatives to reduce expenses. One option was to explore the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace for potentially lower premiums and better coverage, especially for family plans. I also looked into health savings accounts (HSAs) to manage out-of-pocket costs more efficiently. In some cases, income-based assistance programs or state-specific health initiatives might provide additional support. While going without insurance can be risky, insuring the kids and seeking other forms of financial assistance or more affordable plans might be viable solutions. It’s essential to weigh the potential financial risks of not having insurance against the cost of the current plan.
