Hi there! I hope you can excuse any mistakes in my writing since I’m using my phone on the go. If this isn’t the right place for this question, could you please tell me where I should go?
My partner banks with PNC and has been hit with a bunch of overdraft fees in the last day. PNC changed the order of his transactions over the weekend, clearing a bigger recent transaction before smaller ones made earlier. This led to multiple overdraft charges for the smaller transactions. He found out yesterday morning and called to fix it, but was told it happened because he opted in for overdraft protection, which he says he didn’t. He asked if they could stop the transactions because his direct deposit was due at midnight and was told yes. Yesterday, he packed a sandwich for work and everything seemed okay.
But this morning, he checked his account and saw that the transactions weren’t stopped, and he got hit with even more fees, which almost wiped out his paycheck. He admits it was his fault for making the big transaction when he shouldn’t have. He didn’t realize it would put his account in the negative and should have waited until after he got paid.
Has anyone else experienced this with PNC? Is there anything he can do about it?
Just to be clear: he’s being charged $35 for each overdraft, even though the charges are only $10-$15 each. If they had been processed first (since they were made first), there would have been enough funds, and only the larger charge ($150, I think) would have gotten the $35 fee.
Thanks in advance for any help!
