Anyone getting these fake allocated waiver notices with a check?

Has anyone else received mail claiming to offer an ‘allocated waiver’ linked to their mortgage? I got one recently, and it looks suspicious. It came with a check for $199 and used urgent language saying it was the final notice. The number they listed was (800) 916-8689, and they made it look like it was from a legit mortgage company like First Centennial Mortgage or Discover Bank.

Here is what I noticed:

  1. The letter tries to pressure you into calling right away. It says things like ‘FINAL NOTICE’ and ‘IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED.’
  2. It looks official, using bulk mail permits and fake credentials to seem real.
  3. The letter is vague and does not clearly state which mortgage lender it is from.
  4. It asks you to deposit the check and call them, which sounds like a scam.

If you get one of these, here is what I suggest:

  • Do not deposit the check. It could be part of a scam.
  • Contact your actual mortgage lender using their verified phone number to confirm if anything is real.
  • Report it to postal authorities and the Federal Trade Commission.

If anyone else has received something like this, let’s compare notes so we can warn others.

I called that number and talked to a woman first, then some guy. After they gave their whole pitch, they asked for my debit or credit card number. I played along and asked if they accepted gift cards, and that made him angry. He got aggressive, so I just hung up. The whole thing felt like a scam.

I got the same letter with a $199 check, but the phone number was different. Mine was 800-299-9568. My house is fully paid off and currently in probate, so I knew something was off. They used all the same language like ‘Final Notice’ and ‘Final Attempt.’ It freaked me out at first, but I found this discussion and feel better now. Thanks for sharing.
