Will roadside assistance help with a mechanical repair?

I have State Farm and had to pull over yesterday because my engine started overheating and my power steering stopped working. When I checked under the hood, I saw that my serpentine belt had fallen off because of a damaged pulley.

Would roadside assistance actually help me fix that, or is this outside of what they cover? I know they offer a free tow to a shop, but I’d rather not spend a lot of money on this fix if there’s another option. Just wondering if they’d come out and help if I already have the parts. Feels like a long shot, but figured I’d ask.

Short answer—no. They’ll tow you to a shop, but the repairs are on you.

There’s usually limited coverage for mechanical repairs, and part of the policy says they cover ‘up to one hour of mechanical labor.’ That said, it’s pretty restricted. Your repair sounds like it might be outside of that. Best bet is to call the roadside assistance number and ask them directly.

Yeah, I saw that too. I was thinking if they came out and I already had the parts, maybe they’d help since it could be done in an hour. But yeah, seems like a stretch.
