I got into an accident on the highway, my fault.

Do I have to pay first and then get reimbursed, or will insurance handle it directly?

I have Tesla insurance, but I can’t get through to anyone—it’s driving me crazy. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Yeah, they should cover it, but tow yards can be shady. Some will rack up storage fees fast, so try to get it out of there as soon as possible. Keep all your receipts and submit them to your insurance.
