Should we rebuild or take the payout and start over?

Good advice. At $200 per square foot, $315k doesn’t go far. You’ll want to make sure you can afford something comparable to your old house.

We’re in upstate SC, and our house was 1500 sqft. Hopefully, that’s still achievable within our budget.

Don’t forget to factor in demo costs and site prep. It’s possible you can reuse the foundation or other elements to save a bit.

@Luka
Since this is a policy limit payout, there’s no getting more than $315k. You’ll need to work within that amount.

@Luka
Thanks for the tip. The check is already on the way, but we’ll definitely prioritize getting quotes from contractors soon.

@Luka
Did your policy include inflation protection or extra coverage for rising costs? That could help cover any gaps.

We updated our coverage recently to account for this, so hopefully we’re okay on that front.

Do you really want to rebuild in the same spot? That’s the first thing to figure out.

With the trees gone, it might actually feel more open and livable than before.
