Is Geico really cheaper than State Farm for young drivers?

Hello, everyone. I’ve been using State Farm for a while, but the constant price increases are making it tough to keep up. Recently, I checked Geico, and they offered me a monthly rate that’s $70 cheaper than what I currently pay. I even spoke with my State Farm agent, but due to inflation in California, there’s not much they can adjust. After a few hikes in the past year, I feel like it’s time to explore other options.

I’m 23, drive a 2022 Honda, and have had my license for five years. My current rate is $229 per month. Is this normal for someone my age and situation? Any advice or tips on getting better rates would be greatly appreciated.

Your rates might have been unusually low before due to regulation. Prices will likely keep going up.

Farm Bureau has been the most reliable for me. Unlike State Farm, they don’t hike prices unnecessarily. Geico is cheaper but their claims process can be disappointing. Progressive isn’t great either.

What kind of coverage are you paying for? Liability limits? Deductibles? Rental coverage?

15/30k liability, $500 for comprehensive, $1k for collision, $50/day rental with $1.2k total limit, and $25k property damage.

Honestly, I just want the cheapest insurance possible :rofl:

Same here. Let’s hope I don’t get pulled over anytime soon.

You’re probably the type to drive responsibly and never even need insurance.

California has had low insurance rates for years, but they’re catching up now. At your age and with only five years of driving experience, $229 doesn’t seem too unreasonable.

State Farm is a top company, but they aren’t always the cheapest. Different insurers cater to different situations, so it’s worth getting multiple quotes.

I’ve had State Farm for years, but their repair coverage has been terrible. They lowball estimates and leave you to deal with the rest.

I’ve stuck with them for decades, but they’ve gone downhill fast. It might be time to switch.

Get quotes from at least five to ten companies before deciding.

I switched to Geico recently and saved a lot. Setting up the policy was quick and easy, and the savings were worth it.

I was paying $430 with Geico for two cars. Switched to another company and now pay $200.

@Deen
Which company did you switch to?

Yeah, don’t leave us hanging—what’s the new company?

I’ve been helping an elderly neighbor with insurance claims, and from what I’ve seen, avoid National General and Allstate. Geico has been responsive for me, but Erie Insurance tops my list for best service.

@Darby
Can you share that top 20 list you mentioned? It would be helpful.

Yes, please! I’d love to see it too.
