How to handle someone else using my address for mail

Hello guys, I have lived in this house for nearly 7 years, and only in the past few months have I started receiving mail from someone I don’t recognize. It is not just junk mail, it is bank statements, credit card bills, and insurance documents, all addressed to the same person who is not the previous owner. This issue didn’t exist in the first 6 years.

I have been marking the mail and sending it back through the post office. However, the increasing volume of these letters makes me suspect potential fraud. It does not seem like a simple mistake.

I checked my credit reports and found nothing unusual, which makes sense since the person is not using my name.

Is there anything else I should do besides returning these letters?

Ask to fill out a residence card (it may be called something else) when you go to the post office. You enumerate each resident of your address. Any mail that arrives at your address that is not intended for someone in your home should automatically be returned to sender by the system once it is on file.

That’s a wise decision. That’s what I’ll do.

Naturally, I’m not all that irritated by the letters. I just want to make sure that my address isn’t being used fraudulently or illegally. It appears that simply replying to the sender is not making much of an impact.
