I got a letter from Payne Richards and Associates saying I have unclaimed funds. They want my Social Security number and tax forms, including W-2s. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it legit?
I’ve heard of them before. I think they’re legit, but you might want to double-check. Did they ask for too much info?

Yeah, asking for a Social Security number and tax forms seems like a lot. I’d be cautious.

Agreed. You can usually check unclaimed funds directly with the state. No need for a third party.
@Blai
Exactly. I’ve claimed unclaimed funds before, and I never had to involve a company.
I looked them up once. They seem legit, but they do have a few complaints online. Might be worth checking the BBB website.

Good point. BBB can give you a better idea of their reputation. It’s always good to be safe with sensitive info.
If it’s about unclaimed funds, you can just go to the state controller’s office. They have a website for this.

Totally. I did that for some unclaimed funds in Indiana. It was simple and safe.
Be careful with companies asking for sensitive details. It could be a scam. Check directly with your state to be sure.
It’s not unusual for legit companies to ask for verification, but you’re better off avoiding third parties. Go straight to the source.
