Best credit card that can be paid off with cash?

hi all,

started a side gig that’s doing well, around $3-4k a month, mostly cash. i’m covering some expenses with it (groceries, kid’s activities, etc) but looking for a credit card i can pay off in person with cash.

right now, i use the rogers world elite cc, but they don’t offer in-person cash payments.

heard you can pay off a walmart cc at walmart or a triangle cc at canadian tire – is that true?

with my 9-5 income of around $120k, what’s the best card i should get?

would triangle world elite be a good option?

thanks!

canadian tire cards can be paid in person, for sure.

if your goal here is tax avoidance, just know this approach won’t work. CRA can trace cash payments toward credit cards, so you’ll still have to explain your income source if it gets flagged.

i’ll assume you’re just asking for convenience reasons, though.

@Dare
yep, CRA knows these tricks. algorithms can easily catch inconsistencies – they analyze spending vs. declared income, location costs, etc. anyone thinking they’re smarter than the CRA usually ends up with a bigger bill.

any tax return is a legal declaration, so it’s serious.

side gigs are taxable income. paying a credit card with unreported cash isn’t wise.

good thing most people committing crimes aren’t smart enough to avoid getting caught.

exactly, if you’re getting paid cash, just use cash. is the 2% cashback really worth the potential tax hassle?

OP chasing a 1-2% cashback while dodging a ~40% tax bill…

triangle card at canadian tire is a solid choice for cash payments. you can pay up to $9999 at the customer service desk, and they tend to offer high limits quickly.

since you’re declaring that extra income, why not get a good card for your income bracket, link it to your bank, and deposit cash there?

that assumes OP wants to declare the income. they could deposit the cash at any bank and pay off any card they want.

@Cassian
no one wants to pay taxes, but we all like things like healthcare, roads, etc. maybe less fraud would be good.

if you think paying a credit card in cash avoids taxes, you’re mistaken.

deposit your cash, declare it as income, pay taxes, and avoid CRA trouble.

step 1: deposit your cash. step 2: declare it on your taxes. step 3: pay taxes. step 4: enjoy your legit credit card.

or you could not…

check with your bank – some branches let you make in-person payments. i used to pay mine at a credit union back in uni with the statement voucher.

my first card was with CIBC. i’d go in with cash and ask them to call in the payment, so credit was available immediately.

thanks for your contribution to easy CRA detection if you don’t report this income lol.

so is this a legit side gig or something sketchy? not depositing cash to avoid detection?
