I’ve been thinking about selling some stuff on eBay, but I’m not sure where to start. I know there are fees, and you can either set a fixed price or let people bid. Anyone have advice on pricing, shipping, or what sells best on eBay?
I started on eBay with old books and electronics I wasn’t using. It’s a great way to declutter and make a bit of extra cash. Just make sure to factor in eBay’s fees when you set your prices. For most things, eBay takes about 13.25% plus 30 cents per order.

That’s good to know. How do you figure out the best price for an item?

Check sold listings for similar items. There’s a filter on eBay that lets you see what things actually sold for. It gives you a good idea of the going rate.
If you’re just starting, I’d stick with fixed-price listings until you get the hang of it. Auctions can be tricky unless you’re selling something rare or in high demand. For everyday items, fixed prices are more predictable.
@April
Agreed. I used to do auctions, but now I mostly set fixed prices. It’s easier to control, and you don’t have to worry about underselling.
Make sure your listings are really clear and honest about the condition of the item. Take good photos, and don’t be afraid to point out any flaws. Buyers appreciate honesty, and it helps avoid disputes later.

What kind of photos work best? Do I need fancy equipment?

No need for fancy stuff. I just use my phone. Take photos in natural light, on a plain background, and from a few different angles. The clearer, the better.
Customer service is huge on eBay. Respond to questions quickly, ship items on time, and package everything well. Reviews matter a lot, so the better your service, the better your rating.

Yep, reviews are key. I always try to ship the same day or next day, and I offer free shipping when I can. It helps my listings stand out.
If you’re serious about selling, you might want to look into getting an eBay store subscription. It comes with lower fees and some marketing tools. But it only makes sense if you’re selling a lot of items each month.
@Thuggin
Thanks for the tip! I’ll see how my first few sales go before jumping into that.
